Homestead Valley
This project was part of a full home rebuild — down to the studs, with a raised roof over a small addition and a completely reorganized interior layout. By considering the relationship between indoors and out from the very beginning, we were able to find efficiencies in the home’s compact footprint and create new, seamless connections to the outdoors.
In the garden, we started by replacing an astroturf lawn with plants inspired by the nearby Oak and Redwood understory. The soil has been brought back to life, inviting beneficial insects and local wildlife to return. The garden has become an integral part of the living space, and a source for joy, play and respite. It’s a labor of love, a work in progress, and a place for creatures of all kinds.
